Do you find it hard to get going in the morning sometimes? I certainly do. Well here's the cure! This morning thickshake feels like pure indulgence but is filled with lovely ingredients to set you up for a great day.

I've just started working for the first time since going on maternity leave a year and a half ago. I'm really enjoying being out there in the world again but getting our little family going in the morning is no small feat.  Breakfast in the form of a raw chocolate thickshake is a beautiful treat that can be consumed while I dart about the house or on the drive to work.

Soaked walnuts make the most divine nut milk. The natural maltiness of walnuts lends itself brilliantly to breakfast smoothies. Chia seeds add satiating good fats and are a wonderful thickener. The raw cacao gives you a very noticeable energy boost and the frozen banana ensures it's thick, creamy and just the right amount of sweet.

I hope you're having a wonderful week. Kelly x

Raw chocolate & walnut thickshake

2 Tbsp raw cacao powder

1 frozen banana

1/4 - 1/2 cup walnuts - soaked overnight and rinsed well

1/2 cup coconut cream

1/2 cup water - more if needed

2 Tbsp chia seeds

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

pinch sea salt

large handful ice

(I often add 1 raw free range egg - obviously totally optional)

Place the walnuts, water and coconut cream into a blender. Blitz until the walnuts have become a smooth "milk"

Add the remaining ingredients and blend until thick and smooth. You may need to add a little extra water to keep the blender moving. Add more water too if your shake is too thick but do it slowly so you don't lose the lovely thick consistency.

Enjoy immediately. x
